For the v2.6 final i had a look at the dimensions of the FDE terrain and changed it to resemble a 4000mx4000m area with 1000m maximum height. Look at the results.

I'm not trying to catch terragen but just making a renderer for nice pictures and skyboxes, not necessarily realistic ones.

Any chance you could tell us the settings you used to render the night sky?  I've been experimenting and haven't been able to get anything remotely close.  The land/water doesn't matter to me so much, just the sky settings.  Thanks.
